Lori Porter Steps Down At Parental Rights In Education

Here at the Northwest Connection, we have mixed feelings upon learning that Lori Porter has stepped down as the director of Parents Rights in Education. We have been grateful over the years to publish her submissions aimed at informing the public about what is transpiring in classrooms across the state, and what parents can do when their values and beliefs are discounted and/or usurped by educators.

We’ll miss Lori, and we wish her well.

Porter has been an indefatigable advocate for the rights of parents regarding the quality and propriety of the education their children receive in public schools. While keeping a watchful eye on what goes on in schoolrooms and campuses across the state, Porter has kept educators accountable, and contributed to a more healthful and socially beneficial environment for students at all grade levels.

Among Porter’s many accomplishments: she was instrumental in helping shut down a questionably sexualized Newport, OR conference sponsored by—among others–the Oregon Department of Education. The conference “curriculum” was even criticized by some progressive Democrat observers. Porter has also shone a spotlight on so-called “school health centers” that have been shown to propagandize in favor of sexual practices wholly inappropriate for the grade levels in which they were introduced.

Hello Fellow Defenders of Parental Rights and the Protection of Children:

I wanted to let you know that I am no longer the Director of Parents’ Rights in Education (PRIE). Since co-founding PRIE in July 2011, it has been an honor to work with so many of you over the years.

I can’t begin to tell you how much I have appreciated you being eyes, ears and voices for the rights of parents, local control, accountability and educational excellence. It has helped us tremendously over the years to get information, insights or assistance from you about an issue, an opportunity and/or event that needed support…OR needed to be exposed.

Since my father’s passing last April, I have been caring for my dear mother who has Alzheimer’s and who still lives on our family’s century farm. Additional significant life changes have developed and have finally deemed it necessary for me to step down as PRIE Director and to pass on the baton. Parents’ Rights in Education may have a new look and approach moving forward – but you can be assured that the passion and commitment to inform and empower parents and guardians remains front and center.
