“Treason” Book Review

By Jim Kight, NW Connection

“Treason” is written by the well-known Newt Gingrich and co-authored by Pete Earley. Gingrich is a former Speaker of the House, and presidential candidate in 2012. He is also the author of 14 New York Times bestsellers. This latest entry into the publishing of “Treason” provides insight into our national government.
According to Gingrich, “Treason deals with a traitor from within the U.S. government. But treachery is the willful blindness that prevents us from dealing with the terrorism for what it is.” It would be difficult to argue otherwise.
The book starts out with a terrorist who is careful to keep his identity from those who are pursing him, including other terrorists he is in collusion with. His campaign of terror covers Europe but finally he sets his sights on the United States. He has help in the form of a mole within the upper levels of the U.S. government. President Allworth, the madam president, even has difficulty identifying the individuals as radical Islamic extremist; and this after two attempts on her life.
I found myself looking for similarities to the past administration and their lack of dealing honestly with Islamic terrorism. Their policies are reflected in the characters in the book. Thankfully, the CIA and other government agencies tasked to protect our safety seem to operate on a parallel track, some of the time.
If you are a political watcher you will enjoy this book. There are plots and subplots that make it a page flipper.
