If by sovereign you mean that God is above everything else, with no one having authority over Him, then yes.

If by sovereign you mean that God decrees, or decides, everything that happens, then NO. God is not to blame for murders, rapes, human trafficking. He is not to blame for bribery or lies or extortion or a multitude of other sins. The Bible clearly says, “When tempted, no one should say, ‘God is tempting me.’ For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed” (James 1:13-14). Man is the problem. None of us can say, “God made me do it.” God is NEVER an accomplice to our sin.

Some would ask, “If God is at the top of the heap, then how can anything happen without His permission?” Giving permission and causing something to happen are two different things. God has sovereignly made the decision to give people the freedom to make their own choices. From grabbing someone else’s toy to grabbing a package off someone’s porch, people are accountable for their wrongs. God is not to blame. Just because God KNOWS everything that will happen, it doesn’t mean that He DECREES or FORCES it to happen. Continue reading

The Portland Bureau of Transportation (PBOT), the agency charged with building and maintaining the city’s transportation system, is shifting the responsibility of improving traffic congestion away from itself and onto individual residents.

This was made apparent in a recently released 2018 report provided by Bloom Communications that surveyed Portland residents’ attitudes and perceptions of the Bureau. The contents of the survey are unsurprisingly critical of PBOT and demonstrate Portlanders’ increasing frustration with the region’s transportation system.

Of the themes that emerged, survey participants were generally concerned with safety on public transit, potholes and degrading roads, increasing traffic congestion, and PBOT’s lack of vision.

People want safe and efficient commutes. 81% of participants said that driving their car was the safest way for them and their families to commute, as they have greater control over who they come in contact with and what happens to them. Another 64% said they would consider taking transit if they were sure they “could reliably get to [their] destination faster or in the same amount of time as driving [their] personal car.” However, the current transportation system is seen as an inconvenience for many participants, and it is quicker for them to drive their car due to the frequency at which the MAX and city buses make stops. Secretary of State Bev Clarno

Travel Oregon should strengthen controls over contracting procedures and take steps to share more information regarding the compensation of agency leadership to better inform the Legislature, according to an audit released today by Secretary of State Bev Clarno.

The findings are outlined in the report entitled: “Travel Oregon Should Strengthen Controls over Contracting and Improve Accountability of Compensation to Inform Decision Makers.”

Travel Oregon has generally demonstrated a commitment to ensuring contracts are in place to provide for the needs of the agency. However, the audit makes recommendations to further strengthen contracting procedures. Additionally, the audit highlights the fact that Travel Oregon’s managers are some of the highest compensated managers in state government. Auditors found the agency lacks detailed documentation to support the decisions that led to these high levels of compensation.

“Travel Oregon should improve its transparency and accountability in how it spends taxpayer money,” said Secretary of State Clarno. “Travel Oregon receives funding courtesy of the lodging tax, which is paid by taxpayers in Oregon and visitors alike.”

In the heartland of America, there is corruption. At Indiana University last week they celebrated the 4th Annual “Sex Fest.” They defended this foray into degrading sex by saying, “Our public health researchers have found some evidence to suggest that people are engaging in a broader range of sexual activities and as a result, it is the IU Health Center’s mission to make sure they practice it safely.”

Campus Reform noted (2/6/20), “The second night offered…demonstrations, including a man whipping a tied up woman in public.”

It was reported that students could choose from an appalling list that included bondage, exhibitionism, and a host of other deviant behaviors.

These things took place at Indiana University – the headquarters of the Kinsey Institute. This is the school where Dr. Alfred Kinsey taught, until he died in 1956.

Kinsey’s research and books launched the sexual revolution. His research is taken as gospel by many. While in college, a virgin Methodist, Hugh Hefner, thought Kinsey’s work was scientific, so he abandoned his religion and enthusiastically became “Kinsey’s pamphleteer.” Continue reading

Transgenderism, which normalizes mental illness about sexuality, has taken a sleeping nation by storm. What not too long ago was categorized as a mental disorder by every psychiatrist and psychologist has now been redefined as a perfectly normal alternative to, well, normal sexuality.

Nineteen states have made it a crime for a mental health professional to help a confused teenager adopt a healthy and time-tested view of his own sexuality. But no amount of redefining words can change the tragic reality that among those who have completed the wholly imaginary transition from male to female (or the reverse) the rate of attempted suicide is a heartbreaking and astonishing 41%, nine times higher than the national average.

(A study from Sweden — a nation known for its “affirmation” of transgender individuals — showed that gender-affirming treatment actually does not reduce the suicide rate for these patients. “In fact, their rate of completed suicide was found to be 19 times the rate for the general population.”)

Accompanying this twisted embrace of sexual perversity is egregious and grotesque medical malpractice. It is now standard operating procedures to put mixed-up teenagers on puberty blockers, drugs which stop a teens perfectly normal sexual maturation. These puberty blockers are actually forms of chemical castration, which is a great idea if we want to inject it into pedophiles, but is criminal when injected in a healthy 13-year-old. Transparency is critical as Metro asks voters to trust the agency with billions in new taxes

Cascade Policy Institute has raised concerns with Metro Council that the regional government’s Parks and Nature program may be violating Oregon’s Public Meetings Law.

In a letter to Metro President Lynn Peterson and Metro Council, Cascade Policy Institute has identified two meetings of the Parks and Nature Oversight Committee that were held without public notice.

One of these meetings was last Tuesday, February 4, 2020. At an afternoon work session, Councilor Sam Chase informed the rest of Council that he had met with the Oversight Committee earlier that day. At the meeting Councilor Chase and the committee discussed issues Cascade Policy Institute’s Eric Fruits had raised regarding the Parks and Nature program in testimony to council on January 23, 2020. Councilor Chase says he and the committee discussed the administrative costs of the Parks and Nature program, which skyrocketed last year. There was no public notice of the public meeting of the Oversight Committee. Continue reading

Dr. Nalini Rajamannan

For years Northwestern University has operated in non-compliance with Federalwide Assurance 1549

Dr. Rajamannan presented definitive evidence to the Senate Finance Committee after years of investigation dating back to December 2008, and including investigations by the Senate Judiciary Committee. The Senate Committee has been reviewing all evidence submitted by Dr. Rajamannan over the past 10 years. Senator Charles Grassley, Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and President Pro Tempore began an investigation into the FDA/the hospital/University and the device manufacturer, regarding the research and development of a new heart valve Model 5100.

The evidence demonstrates for the first time, the conflicting statements regarding the FDA status at the time of the “surprise FDA study” between the FDA, the hospital/University and the device Manufacturer Edwards Lifesciences:
  1. Device Manufacturer states that the device is “FDA approved” as of September 2007 in a 2 line email, and the hospital/University confirms this status in statements to the Illinois Supreme Court as of December 2019.
  2. FDA states to Senate Committee that the device is not “FDA approved” as of March 2009 and is on recall.
  3. FDA confirms to Congress that there are no plans to inform any of the 667 patients that the device was not approved during the surprise FDA study.
  4. Senator Grassley’s Senate Finance Committee has oversight over use of Medicare and Medicaid Funding, and has maintained follow up of the new evidence brought forth to the Senate this week for the failure to investigate pre-authorization from Medicare for the FDA study to test the device.
  5. Northwestern University never reverses their position from the 2007 email claiming “FDA approval” despite receiving the status of the FDA decision not to approve the device as of July 16, 2009.

I always find it eyebrow-raising (if not comical) how Progressives arrive late to the party and then try to dictate how the party should be run. The most recent example of this particular brand of self-important narcissism comes in Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her cuckold, metrosexual boy-toy, Riley Roberts, attempting to lecture “white people” on their “racism.”

“…I think a lot of people, they don’t want to be racist,” Roberts said, Ocasio-Cortez at his side with her puppeteer’s hand up his backside. “They don’t think that they’re racist, but they also don’t know some of the things they believe or say are and can be racist.” Roberts went on to suggest that people tell “racist white friends” that they were not, in fact, racist, but merely held “wrong opinions.”

Lost in all of this is the fact that Ocasio-Cortez and her boyfriend – as well as the rest of her Justice Democrat, hyper-left, social engineering comrades – have their own definition for racism. As is always the case with the Progressive Left (and AOC and her ilk are the extreme in this already extreme group), they provide their own definitions to words; their own meaning to phrases and events, in an effort to rewrite history and advance their version of how the world should be. How is it that a communist, for all practical purposes, is winning in the Iowa caucuses at present? If there is anything that history shows repeatedly, it is that socialism, including its more violent form, communism, is an utter failure by every criterion imaginable.

And yet, as of this writing, Bernie Sanders, Democrat presidential candidate and an out-of-the-closet socialist, is leading in Iowa.

As The New York Times (1/26/20) notes: “Senator Bernie Sanders has opened up a lead in Iowa just over a week before the Democratic caucuses, consolidating support from liberals and benefiting from divisions among more moderate presidential candidates who are clustered behind him, according to a New York Times/Siena College poll of likely caucusgoers.”

Bernie Sanders is what you could call a limousine liberal or a sofa socialist. One writer uses the phrase, “champagne socialist.”

That writer is Dr. Paul Kengor, a professor of history and political science at Grove City College, and a best-selling author. Many of his books focus on communism. After the Soviet Union imploded in the early 1990s, they eventually released their formerly-classified documents.

Kengor took the time to study those documents and has produced books from those studies. One of those books, Dupes, shows how liberals in the West, including America, fell for the Communists’ lies. Continue reading

Any way the wind blows doesn’t really matter to me.”  —Bohemian Rhapsody

Sometimes I feel like I live in a bubble.  It seems as if nearly every waking moment my mind is racing as I struggle to figure out what we can do to stop the onslaught of evil that is enveloping this land.

It is not the evil that troubles my sleep.  It is the apathy.  It reminds me of the old saw about the high school social studies teacher who asked his students what was the most pressing need facing the nation.  To his despair, the most common response was, “I don’t know and I don’t care.”

Any way the wind blows….

But my frustration doesn’t come from a gaggle of high school students who couldn’t tell the difference between a paper dollar and a solid Gold Eagle coin, but from the frumpy, sports focused men who attend the regular men’s “prayer breakfast” at your average evan-jellyfish assembly.

This really hit home last Monday night as I watched a stadium full of grown men paint their faces and jump up and down in hopes of cheering the LSU Tigers to victory in the National Championship game in The Big Easy. Continue reading
